Paramount Chief of the Namong Traditional Area in the North East region, Daniel Bugri Naabu, has confirmed the content of a leaked audio tape which has become the subject of an ongoing parliamentary inquiry.
The audio tape has voice of persons purportedly plotting to oust the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for fears of impeding the chances of the ruling New Patriotic Party to win the 2024 elections.
Speaking at a Committee of Inquiry hearing Monday, August 28, 2023, Chief Bugri Naabu in a candid admission, confirmed that the crucial conversation, which sparked controversy, indeed transpired between himself and three other high-ranking Police officers.
He subsequently identified the officers as Commander Asare, COP Mensah and Superintendent Gyebi.
He explained to the committee that the officers approached his office with the request which got him scared, the reason he decided to record them to avert any denial.
The Ad-Hoc Committee is bound to investigate the allegations of the tape and its authenticity.
Members of the five-member committee set up by the Speaker of Parliament to investigate the content of the audio tape have been interrogating Chief Bugri Naabu at the committee’s hearing, led by Chair, Samuel Attah Akyea.
