NPP vice Chairman arrested for alleged GHC 70k fraud

Reports indicate that some residents of the constituency have accused him of defrauding them of over GHC 70,000 under the pretense of securing rental stores for them.

The Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Takoradi Constituency of the Western Region, Charles Kingsley Arthur—popularly known as ‘Dada Cee’—has been arrested and detained by the Central Police Station in Takoradi for allegedly defrauding several individuals.

Reports indicate that some residents of the constituency have accused him of defrauding them of over GHC 70,000 under the pretense of securing rental stores for them. It is alleged that the embattled Chairman of the NPP promised to offer the said individuals stores to rent but has refused to fulfil the promise.

According to the victims, Mr. Arthur allegedly posed as an agent for commercial spaces under construction at the Takoradi Market Circle. He is said to have allegedly collected various sums of money from the victims, promising them that the stores would be ready for occupation within a month of payment.

One of the victims, who rushed to the police station upon hearing of his arrest, lodged an official complaint. She alleged that she paid a total of GHC 25,000 to Mr. Arthur over two years ago but has since been met with repeated excuses and no refund.

A financial institution (name withheld) has also made similar complaint, stating that they paid over GHC 25,000 to him in May 2023, but all efforts to recover the amount have been unsuccessful.

Mr. Arthur has since been charged with defrauding by false pretense and is expected to be arraigned before court. In the meantime, he has been granted bail.
