The Achimota Magistrate Court has convicted and fined the sixteen individuals who were arrested by the police for invading the studios of UTV, a media outlet owned by the Despite Media Group in Accra. These individuals, who are affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were searching for political activist A- Plus. Each of them has been ordered to pay a fine of GH¢200.

The individuals in question have been formally charged with the offence of conspiracy to commit crimes and engaging in riotous behaviour. The individuals admitted their guilt to the charges and were subsequently found guilty by the court.

The frustrated young individual caused a delay in the broadcast of the widely- watched programme, United Showbiz. The reason behind this delay was the actions of A Plus, also known as Kwame Obeng Asare, a frequent commentator on the show. A Plus exhibited significant disrespect towards the NPP (New Patriotic Party) by publicly tearing apart a letter from the party that expressed concerns regarding the show.

From the perspective of the younger demographic, it has been observed that the programme has acquired a political nature. The individual who headed the group’ s incursion into the studio on the evening of Saturday, October 7, 2023, expressed their desire for the esteemed highlife singer, A- Plus, to issue a public apology for his actions during a live broadcast.

Law enforcement authorities intervened and apprehended a total of 16 individuals involved in criminal activities. Subsequent revelations indicated that the individuals responsible for the incident were under the leadership of the Klottey Korle Youth Organiser of the NPP, acting upon directives from Ernest Owusu Bempah, a Deputy Director of Communications, alongside other prominent members of the party.
