A young TikToker has found himself in police custody after posting a video that depicted an interaction with a police officer.

The video gained significant attention for capturing the young man’s attempt to offer a flower to the officer, only to have it angrily swatted away.

This incident has sparked outrage in the community and ignited a heated debate about the appropriateness of the police officer’s response.

In response to the video circulating on social media, authorities swiftly arrested the TikToker, and he is currently detained by the Kasoa police.

This arrest has triggered public anger and raised concerns about the way law enforcement handles non-threatening situations.

The video, which quickly went viral on various social media platforms, has led to widespread condemnation of the officer’s aggressive behaviour.

 

Erastus Asare Donkor is 2022 Journalist of the Year

Mr Erastus Asare Donkor, a journalist with the Multimedia Group Ghana, has been adjudged the 2022 Journalist of the Year.

Mr Donkor won the best reporter in illegal mining with his documentary “Destruction for Gold”, before crowning it with the ultimate.

Neta Kris Abiana Parsram, also with the Multimedia Group, emerged the Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist; whereas, Collincia Ayifa, a student of the University of Cape Coast, won the newly introduced Student Journalist of the Year.

Francesca Enchill, a freelancer at the Multimedia Group Ghana, won the Female Journalist of the Year, with Anthony Adongo Apubeo of the Ghana News Agency winning the Best Education Reporter.

Mr Albert Kofi Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, said the awards was to celebrate professional excellence and reward journalists for their works.

Mr Dwumfour condemned attacks on journalists, saying the Association shall “fight back” against such attacks by instituting legal actions.

 

EC is not above criticism, but do so objectively — Jean Mensa

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it will welcome public scrutiny and criticisms of its work, especially as the nation heads into a crucial election in 2024, however, this must be done with objectivity and candour.

Mrs Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, said that would ensure national peace, security and sustenance of the country’s democracy.

“We at the EC are not above scrutiny. Scrutinise and critique our work as your role requires but do so with objectivity. Criticisms laced with insults and falsehood should be beneath you,” she told members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Sunday.

This was part of her keynote address during the 27th GJAAwards held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

It was on the theme: “Leveraging Media Freedom to Sustain the Democratic and Security Architecture: The Litmus Test of Election 2024”.

The EC Boss noted that the stakes for the 2024 Election were high because they could make or break the peace and security.

 

Okudzeto Ablakwa gifts volunteer teacher a laptop at Mepe, assures her of a full university scholarship

The member of the Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has gifted Gertrude Nutsukpui, an SHS graduate, a brand new laptop for her selflessness in providing free classes for young children after the Akosombo dam spillage.

The MP made this known in a Facebook post after visiting the St Kizito Camp at Mepe, and seeing for himself the compassion exhibited by the young lady.

Gertrude Nutsukpui, despite her challenges after the Akosombo dam spillage, caused massive flooding in Mepe, has been organizing free classes for children of all ages whose education have been distorted.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed his admiration and gave her accolades by assuring Gertrude of a full scholarship in the university for putting the needs of others especially children before hers.

His caption reads “Yesterday I surprised the inspiring young Gertrude with a laptop gift. She is the first to put her own displacement misery aside and organize free classes for kids living with her in the Mepe St. Kizito Camp after they were all displaced by the VRA-induced floods. I have also assured her of a full university scholarship. This crisis has revealed how our nation is blessed with many awesome angels. God bless you all. In this together, rising together.”

 

LilWin survives ghastly motor accident

Renowned Ghanaian actor, entrepreneur and politician, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, recently faced a life-threatening car accident.

Sharing a photograph of his severely damaged car on both his Instagram and Facebook profiles, LilWin revealed the harrowing incident to his followers on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

The accident itself occurred on October 15, 2023, though LilWin chose to share the image of his wrecked vehicle several days later.

Captioning his post, LilWin expressed deep gratitude to God for sparing his life. The image, which displayed the once-sleek black car in a completely mangled state, caused shockwaves not only among his dedicated fan base but also within the entertainment industry.

Despite the absence of location details for the accident, LilWin’s fans and well-wishers were relieved to learn that he survived such an ordeal and continues to share his journey to recovery with them.

Broadcast journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to rescind the decision to attend the grand finale of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz, NSMQ.

Organisers of the event set to be held at the National Theatre on Monday, October 30, 2023, announced that the president will be attending as the special guest of honour.

However, in an X post sighted by Scooper News, Nana Aba Anamoah has urged President Akufo-Addo not to attend the event.

“Please please please and please again @NAkufoAddo don’t show up at the NSMQ finals tomorrow.
