The Ghana movie industry called Ghallywood has seen a very drastic decline in movie production over the years. All of a sudden, things started going downhill in the industry, the producers stopped producing and the actors started diversifying into other forms of entertainment. Many of them went into businesses, radio, TV, and more.

The decline also affected the local language movie production known as Kumawood, however, people like Lilwin are still pushing and producing local language movies for their YouTube channels. Some of them also went into skit-making. A good number of Ghanaian actors and actresses equally switched over to Nigeria (Nollywood).

People like Eddie Watson, Nadia Buari, Toosweet Anan, Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Van Vicker, and many more. Speaking on the state of Ghana’s movie industry, Ghanaian star actress Beverly Afaglo opened up during the entertainment show on Utv called United Showbiz last night. According to her, she was having a conversation with her colleague Eddie Nartey recently and she realized the industry is DEAD!

Beverly said, for instance, people like Ivan Quashigah who is a Ghanaian filmmaker, a creative director, and also the founder and CEO of Farmhouse Productions still make movies. However, he has a contract with Akwaaba Magic Television on DSTV where all his movies are aired.

She mentioned producers like Selassie Ibrahim and Shirley Frimpong Manso who also have the same contract with Akwaaba Magic for all their movies and series. The mother of two and award-winning actress added that when she realized this, she concluded that if for instance, Akwaaba Magic goes, that means Ghana has nothing for their movies and series.

The actress categorically stated that indeed, Ghana’s movie industry is dead and gone without any atom of doubt. Although a lot of Ghana movie makers are trying hard to resurrect the industry, Netizens think they have to do more in order to keep the industry alive and kicking again.

Do you agree with Beverly that indeed, the Ghana movie industry is dead following her explanation? Let me know what you think in the comment section. Kindly share and send me an inbox message using the inbox icon on the top right side of this page.
